WHAT IS INCLUDED
Depart the US to arrive in Sicily the following day
Arrive in Sicily, Italy where you will be picked up from the airport and transported to your lodgings. You will have time to settle into your new home for the week, given the opportunity to rest or the option to visit the Castle of Rampinzeri, located just outside Santa Ninfa.
Day 3 :
Palermo - city and street food tour. Our excursion today takes us to Palermo, the fascinating capital city packed with historic masterpieces waiting to be discovered, not least the magnificent Cathedral di Monreale. It is also famed for its open-air theatre, museums and art galleries, as well as its excellent street food, reputed to be among the best in the world and which we will discover during this tour.
Day 4 :
Excursion to Erice & Trapani. Today we venture out to Erice, an unforgettable hilltop town with ancient origins. It is surrounded by town walls, crowned by a 12th-century castle and is the sacred site of the temple of Venus. You’ll have time to wander through the maze of streets before heading down to the port city of Trapani and its 17th century Torre di Ligny watchtower.
Day 5 :
Excursion to Mazzara del Vallo / Trapani sea salt windmills. Mazzara del Vallo has a beautiful old Arabic quarter known as the Casbar with many houses in typical Arabic style. The flavors that flutter through the narrow streets of the Casbar tell of the North African influence that has remained on the Island. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Basil Cathedral whose style is a melange of Romanesque, Baroque and Greek. From here we will visit the Trapani sea salt farms to experience one of the oldest trades in the region and to see how the salt is hand harvested.
Day 6 :
Excursion to Selinunte. An expansive archeological site incorporating Greek temples, ancient town walls, the ruins of residential and commercial buildings, countryside paths and picturesque views over the nearby coastline. A fascinating day out for any explorer!
Day 7 :
Excursion to the local vineyards. olive orchards & press and lemon & orange groves Get ready for an invigorating day where your senses will be scintillated by the delights of the Sicilian landscape. First stop will be a vineyard where you’ll learn about traditional winemaking techniques. Sicily is fast becoming one of Italy’s most dynamic wine regions and you will get to experience it first hand. From here we will visit the Papa Vince Olive orchards and learn how the olive is pressed and finally experience the citrus groves for which Sicily is renowned.
Day 8 :
Free Day Today you have time on your hands for some souvenir shopping or iust take some time to relax and enjoy the fresh air. We can also offer advice on other local tours for your last day of exploration.
Day 9 :
Return flight to the USA.
As you venture out on our Papa Vince LLC Sicily tour, be sure to bring a healthy appetite, ready to experience the exuberant flavors of the Sicilian cuisine. The island is incredibly fertile and the produce grown on Sicily includes citrus fruits, olives, eggplant, tomatoes, pistachios, almonds, grapes, plus all the fresh seafood and you’ll be sure to experience all these flavors throughout our stay on the island.
Not only will you have the opportunity to taste the local dishes but you will also be able to take the recipes home with you. Our Sicilian hosts have included live cookery demonstrations at the lodging where we will be staying and this is often one of the most enjoyable & unique aspects of our tour. It also means that you can make the recipes in your own kitchen back home and continue to live out your Sicilian experience.
You’ll get to experience homemade pasta making techniques as well as to see how our own Papa Vince’s marmalades are made. And for those with a sweet tooth, there are always the pastries mainly prepared with ricotta cheese and almond paste. These demonstrations are included in your tour and are guaranteed to convert you into a Sicilian food aficionado.
