As you venture out on our Papa Vince LLC Sicily tour, be sure to bring a healthy appetite, ready to experience the exuberant flavors of the Sicilian cuisine. The island is incredibly fertile and the produce grown on Sicily includes citrus fruits, olives, eggplant, tomatoes, pistachios, almonds, grapes, plus all the fresh seafood and you’ll be sure to experience all these flavors throughout our stay on the island.
Not only will you have the opportunity to taste the local dishes but you will also be able to take the recipes home with you. Our Sicilian hosts have included live cookery demonstrations at the family farm where we will be staying and this is often one of the most enjoyable & unique aspects of our tour. It also means that you can make the recipes in your own kitchen back home and continue to live your Sicilian experience.
You will never forget the first time you experienced these traditional Sicilian dishes, all favorites at the Messinese family farm.
Caponata: a beautiful eggplant appetizer, cooked so it’s sweet and sour and served with a tomato sauce. It is essentially a kind of warm salad with capers and seasonal vegetables.
Bracciole (pronounced Brah-shawl and typically known as Involtine): An extraordinarily delicious dish often eaten on special occasions and made with love in Nonna’s (grandma’s) kitchen. It essentially consists of thinly sliced beef rolls with a cheese filling and simmered in a rich sauce for many hours.
Like many Italian families, The Messinese family have their own techniques and traditions. Our hosts make their own sausage and salami, and what Italian meal would ever be complete without its pasta accompaniment? Let’s not forget the ultimate way to finish the meal with a homemade Sicilian pastry prepared with ricotta cheese, so good that they have become world famous. These demonstrations are included in your tour and are guaranteed to convert you into a Sicilian food aficionado.
